Bestowal of Lineage
[edit]The article states that when the 152d Fighter-Interceptor Squadron (FIS) was withdrawn from the Rhode Island Air National Guard in 1956 (actually 19 November 1955) its lineage was bestowed on the 143d Air Resupply Squadron. No reference appears to support this statement. Recognizing that the ANG relies on geographical factors to determine lineage and the Air Force Historical Research Agency washes its hands of responsibility for ANG unit lineages, there are factors indicating (indirectly) that this bestowal did not occur.
- If the 152d FIS was withdrawn from allotment to the National Guard Bureau, control over the unit would rest with the Department of the Air Force, and the NGB could not bestow its lineage on another unit.
- While honors, histories etc. are bestowed, lineages are not. Ravenstein, Charles A. (1984). "Appendix V". Air Force Combat Wings, Lineage & Honors Histories 1947-1977 (PDF). Washington, DC: Office of Air Force History. ISBN 0-912799-12-9.
- Even if a bestowal could occur, it would have terminated when the 152d was re-allotted to the Arizona Air National Guard under the usual rules for bestowal of honors, etc. in Ravenstein. (unit active and assigned to another establishment).
- Maurer, Maurer, ed. (1982) [1969]. Combat Squadrons of the Air Force, World War II (PDF) (reprint ed.). Washington, DC: Office of Air Force History. p. 177. ISBN 0-405-12194-6. LCCN 70605402. OCLC 72556. shows the emblem approved 16 October 1959, after the squadron moved to Arizona, as the emblem for the unit constituted in 1939 as the 152d Observation Squadron. The 143d Airlift Squadron does use a variation of the emblem approved for the 152d Observation Sq. I have no information on what emblem was used by the 152d FIS or the 143d Air Resupply Sq/Troop Carrier Squadron between May 1956 and October 1959. --Lineagegeek (talk) 15:59, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
